In the 1920s, to describe Maryland’s varied topography and culture, a reporter for National Geographic magazine dubbed the state “America in Miniature.” Hollywood picked up on that fact and, especially during the past decade, has been moving cameras and stars into Maryland so that the state can double for locations such as New York City and Washington, D.C.

The Maryland Employer Wage Rebate Grant Program allows a qualified production company to claim a rebate in an amount up to 25% of the total direct costs incurred in the State while filming on location for qualifying film and television productions. Also, an exemption from the 6% state sales tax is available to qualified feature, television, cable, commercial, documentary, music video, etc., projects. Maryland has a deep film and television crew base experienced in every guild and trade. Over 650 IATSE members, over 3000 SAG members, and film sensitive teamsters make Maryland a great location for shooting.

Washington, DC’s instantly recognizable landmarks, diverse neighborhoods, cultural amenities, and first-class accommodations are just some of the many features that make the District of Columbia a venue of choice for motion picture and television production. A film-friendly city with the resources to accommodate any size production, Washington, DC continues to draw feature and independent films, television, documentary, commercial and other video and multimedia projects.
